I’ve never seen the movie “The Bucket List,” but I do understand the premise. Each of us has things we’d like to do or see just once before we die. I have a few of those myself. Some are the things you’d might expect… things like visiting Hawaii, owning a Mustang (red, automatic, hardtop), publishing a book, and owning a home with a real library with wall to wall bookshelves (sorry, eBook fans). While being able to do those things would be wonderful, I’m sure I’m not alone in hoping to enjoy some simpler pleasures while I’m still sane enough to appreciate them. Today, I might as well wish for a flight to the moon. Just once, before I die….

I would like to see all my laundry folded and in the dresser drawers, rather than stacked in baskets across three different rooms.

I would like for every surface of my house to be totally free of paper, books, utensils, and gadgets.

I would like to be able to open a closet door without starting an avalanche (or being greeted by a stash of forgotten laundry).

I would like to be able to actually seat five passengers in my five-passenger vehicle.

I would like to be pressed, dressed, and on time, all at the same time.

I would like to find the actual original work surface of my desk.

I would like to have a front porch that doesn’t look like a scene out of a Jeff Foxworthy “You Might Be A Redneck If…” video.

I would like to be able to clean my entire house with a dust mop and a leaf blower. (Yes, I’m serious.)

I would like to have every room in my house totally clean, all at once. (Which means I’ll probably need more than a dust mop and a leaf blower. Is wishing for a full-time housekeeper too much of a stretch?)

I would like to eat real chocolate and coconut cream pie with real meringue, ham, beans and fried potatoes seasoned with all the bacon grease and salt I want, cornbread with all the butter I want, anytime I want, without having to worry about my weight, triglycerides, or cholesterol.

If I start today, and live to be a hundred and ten…

Maybe I’d better just stick to the Mustang and Hawaii.
