As much as I love my playtime in the pantry, I’m still a full-time working girl.  Most days, my schedule limits the time I can spend on cooking.  I can put together a good meal from the freezer or pantry in a half hour or less, and I also make good use of a crock pot.  I usually save baking and more time consuming meals for the weekend, but sometimes I need a good baked item for work during the week.  Thursday was one of those times.

Wednesday is a long day for me, and I pronounced myself too tired to bake when I got home Wednesday night.  Being the morning person I’m not, by the time I rebounded from my night’s sleep, I had less than an hour to get my baked goodie and myself ready and out the door.  I quickly went to my Pinterest page and scanned my “Things I like” pins.  Cinnamon roll cake jumped out at me; everybody likes a good warm cinnamon roll in the morning.  Just one problem… by this time I had 52 minutes to mix, bake, rinse, and repeat.  Cinnamon roll cake is a from scratch recipe, and measuring those ingredients takes time.

What’s a girl to do?

Run to the pantry and grab a cake mix!

Here’s how I went from jammies and ingredients to dressed and out the door with a cake in 52 minutes.

Mix a yellow cake mix with 2 eggs, 1/2 cup milk, and 7 Tablespoons softened butter or margarine.  Spread into a sprayed
(or greased) 9 x 13 dish.

Mix the topping from the Pinterest recipe for Cinnamon Roll cake. Spoon the topping evenly over the batter and swirl with a knife.

Take a quick picture for the blog before putting cake into a 350-degree oven.

Shower.

Check cake. Mix glaze ingredients from the Pinterest Cinnamon Roll Cake recipe in a covered glass jar.

Dry hair.

Check cake.

Style hair and brush teeth.

Check cake.  Agree with husband’s assessment that you can see the cake jiggle in the middle from across the kitchen.  Increase oven temperature to 360 degrees.

Dress and put on makeup.

Take cake out of oven and put in a box (uncovered) to transport to work.

Take photo for blog.

Pack glass jar with glaze in a spare pocket of laptop bag. Drive to work.

Glaze cake before serving.
