My husband came to the supper table carrying his laptop.

“If you’ll humor me, I thought we might try something a little different for our dinner entertainment.”

The unexpected change in programming caught my attention, since most evenings our “dinner entertainment” is syndicated reruns of our favorite Sci-Fi series.

“I listened to a podcast today. I could hear your voice all over this.”

As we ate chicken and coleslaw, TC Scornavacchi introduced Episode 15 of her “TC After Dark” podcast (Scornavacchi, 2020). Inspired by nine cookbooks from her collection, TC entertained us with readings from her favorite passages. Like me, she reads cookbooks cover to cover, finding that the best are more than just collections of recipes. I nodded in agreement as she shared what makes the best so special. My favorites combine the author’s love of cooking, wit and wisdom, and the memories they associate with the recipes.

For years, this blog has been the outlet for my reflections and ruminations. But my dream is to write and publish professionally. I have several projects in work, including a cookbook I started years ago. A busy schedule and a full-time job make the transition from “in work” to “published” a real challenge. Knowing I want and need to do more, I often pray about the next steps. The answer is always the same: “Do it the way I showed you.”

I remember well the day I first sensed that answer. Overwhelmed by the hundred and one “how-to’s” spinning through my head, I was ready to give up.

“Lord, if You want me to do this, You’ve got to show me!”

Within a few days, the site layout, topics, and social media came together. Still, l struggled to generate content.

The name I chose for this blog, “lifeatroomtemperature,” felt right. I could never explain why; I just knew. The problem is, no one else did. Feeling “right” isn’t good enough. Expressing the “why” is key.

Ultimately, I found my answer in the root of my branding, with the help of the Oxford Online Dictionary. The Oxford definition of “room temperature” begins with these words: “A comfortable ambient temperature.” Oxford defines “ambient” as “Relating to the immediate surroundings of something.” (Lexico.com, 2020).

That’s the essence of “room temperature.” Like Goldilocks’ porridge, room temperature is not too cold, not too hot, but just right.

Lifeatroomtemperature is about me… the ways I find comfort and joy in everyday surroundings and my hope of helping others do the same along the way.
